Experimental Jetset
The last link of 2008 and it’s one that I’ve been waiting for all year.
Experimental Jetset have relaunched their site with all of their newest work for all to see.

Part 3 in my ‘favourite work of 08′ posts is the infuriatingly beautiful stationery set by Xavier Encinas.
Considered type – nice stock – beautiful print. Simple as that.

As an adopted son of Manchester I think it’s only fair that I shine the light on some Great Mancunian agencies.
First up is branding agency Truth, who have updated and much improved their site since the last time I visited. Their folio contains some really nicely considered branding and brand applications.
Pictured is the identity and business card developed for K2IT.

Another of my favourite pieces of 2008 – the Build stationery set. Not only is Michael C. Place one of my design heroes but the Build website is always a joy to visit due to the way you can really get into the design work and see it in glorious ‘actual pixels’ size.
The restrained nature of the design and lack of any of the decorative elements (even the Build bird!) that have become Mr Place’s signature took me by surprise and, for this project, is all the better for it.

Copenhagen based Dyhr Hagen, founded in 2002 by Lars Dyhr and Peter Hagen, have a great portfolio of work prodominently for fashion and lifestyle brands.
It’s the clarity of layout and restrained use of colour that does it for me.

If like me you’re a fan of design legends Attik then you’re probably aware that they have been working hard on the latest and 5th edition of Noise, with the final touches being made before it goes on sale in a limited edition of 3000.
I’ve got my name down for a copy and can’t wait until I get my paws on it.
For the full Noise Five story visit the Noise blog.

What is it with the Swiss and perfectly considered graphic communication? They make it look so damn easy.
Sébastien Vigne and Julien Notter produce design that is so simple but so brilliant it literally enrages me that I didn’t produce it myself!

I’m hoping I’ll need plenty of batteries over the festive period to power all the toys and gizmos Santa is bringing me – and they don’t come any better looking than these babies from the always brilliant Stockholm Design Lab.

In my student days I hoarded style magazines like The Face, Arena Homme + and Wallpaper*. One particular issue of Homme+ really drew me in with its clinical layout and execution.
Just recently I have discovered the man behind the design – Fabien Baron of Baron & Baron Inc. Baron works extensively in high fashion; building brands and designing print and motion advertising campaigns, editorial, packaging and product and furniture design.

The branding and identity work produced by Pentagram for The Museum of Arts and Design is very high up my list of the best pieces of work I have seen this year.
I love reading anything Michael Beirut has to say. Period. The write up on the Pentagram site is an interesting drink. Period. Go check it now. Period.
