Lee Mawdsley

Many graphic designers love a bit of architectural photography but some photographers really do it better than others. Lee Mawdsley is one of those talented guys who does it better than most as this stunning set of images taken at London’s Gatwick airport illustrate.

GF Smith

Before I went on my hols I was very kindly invited by James Groves of GF Smith to attend a special preview of the amazing retrospective show ‘Art on Paper’. Unfortunately being a ‘Northerner’ I was unable to make the London show and it looks like it was a great event.

Aitor Throup

I’m a big fan of the work of Aitor Throup – especially his sketching and drawing style. Hailing from Argentina via a stopoff in tropical Burnley it is his hard work and attention to detail and structure that will make England  – even in the absence of right midfielder/fashion icon David Beckham – the best turned out team at this summer’s World Cup.

Pleks

What a joy it is to be introduced to a studio or designer whose work blows you away and instantly gets filed away in your mind under ‘A’ for ace!

Thanks to our good Michael over at Make I have just sampled the delights of Copenhagen’s Pleks and their stunning portfolio of work including this cracking piece of brand/type for The Danish Centre of Design Research. Proper, proper good.

Office Pod

If I had a) a big garden and b) a spare £15,000 I could see Bitique broadcasting from an Office Pod. If anyone from Office Pod is a fan of the ‘tique I could be persuaded to accept a freebie!

Grafik/Made Thought

The new cover for Grafik – as featured over on Grafikcache this week – reminded me of just how good Grafik was when designed by Made Thought. More examples can be found in the Archive on Made Thought’s site.

Paul Rand Inc

Spotted this over at Amass – the blog of designer James Phillips Williams – JP to his friends. Lovely to see the simplicity and beauty of the card. I wonder how it would look if Mr Rand was to design it today with all the added content that goes on a card these days – email address, URL, Skype, Fax etc. I reckon it would still be a belter!

Pick of the year

To mark my last post of the year – probably – I’ve put together a compilation of my favourite work featured on Bitique over the last year – in no particular order other than the order in which I found them in my images folder!

From the look of the mega slideshow opposite it looks like it’s been a very good year for graphic design – and here’s to another. Chin chin and a Merry Christmas!

Kent Lyons

Check out this ridiculously sexy Christmas card by the chaps over at Kent Lyons. Featuring a hand carved 12 pointed Moravian ice star which was allowed to melt as polaroids were taken. The whole 15 hour sequence has also been put together as a stop-frame movie.

I’m not to ashamed to say I would love to get one through Bitique’s letterbox ;)
